Joint Graduate Diploma Urban Design Concept

Working with a fellow student, Tom Potter, we developed a redevelopment strategy for the Briggate area of Leeds city centre.
I brief was to research into the history of the area, develop a portfolio of information and to produce an action plan.
Following the extensive research and analysis of the area we agreed that the street level functioned well as it's intended purpose; a shopping street. Because of the current economic climate, we decided that it would be irrisponsible to expect on of the busiest areas of Leeds to change function and focused our approach upon the upper floors and underground areas of the street.
With research showing that Leeds has a wide varity of past schemes for both elevated and underground routes, the concept idea was formed. To illustrate this idea we created a hand sketch entitled "fantasy briggate". The sketch shows a story of wild and wonderful things that could happen in two magical worlds above and below the shopping street.
