My favorite hobby is tinkering with old Volkswagens.
A family trait that some members may wish had skipped a generation or two. Please don't ask me why Volkswagens - it's unexplainable. Maybe it's because they are the everyday tool, used and abused, taken for granted that they will always work. But most likely because they are a style icon of my era. It's like your first colour television, the first pc, or the mobile phone, the size of a house brick. Sure it wasn't perfect, but compared to what had been before - it was a revolution.
I currently own a 1984 Golf "C" 1300 3Door in "Nevada" Beige. Probably the worst colour and horribly basic spec Golf ever made, and because of it they sold under 100 in the UK. Only 3 of which are currently accounted for by the Golf owners club.
Lovingly "restored" over 2008, it made a stir at classic shows all over the country and featured in two international magazines "PVW" & "Retro Rides".
Currently enduring a "nut and bolt" strip down and rebuild.
